HOUSTON — Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez doesn’t need help at home plate.
The All-Star still got it Wednesday in Houston’s 6-1 win over the Boston Red Sox when he was not called up after a third strike.
Alvarez led Houston’s third in taking a fly ball against Rich Hill. After that, plate umpire Jim Wolf called the first hit and Alvarez fouled a ground for the second hit. Wolf then called the third strike, but didn’t hit Alvarez.
No one seemed to notice the error. Alvarez stayed in the box and Hill returned to the mound. Alvarez, who has 30 home runs and 72 RBIs, was knocked out on the next pitch.

Astros manager Dusty Baker said he didn’t realize what happened at the time and was told after the game.
“Everyone missed it,” Baker said.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora was not asked about the game.
