Yankees’ Aaron Hicks comes off after fouling the right shin

Just as he was starting to smash, Aaron Hicks fell into a heap of pain Tuesday night in the Bronx.
Hicks fouled a ball to his right shin in the third inning of the Yankees’ game against the Reds, forcing his early exit. Once the outfielder finally got up, Hicks cautiously left the field with the help of a coach and was replaced midway by Marwin Gonzalez. Later in the game, the Yankees announced that the X-rays were negative.
In his final eight games on Tuesday, Hicks was batting .385 with three doubles, a triple, three homers and 1.423 OPS — all seven extra hits one more than he had in his first 67 games of the season. .
Gonzalez stayed in the game in left field, with Joey Gallo moving left-to-center to take over from Hicks. Part of the Yankee Stadium crowd chanted for Aaron Judge to come into the game, but manager Aaron Boone remained determined to give him the day off.
