world talking news – UN sanctions six human traffickers in Libya in global first

Recalling the pictures of migrants being bought as slaves which “shocked our conscience” and the Safety Council’s vow to take motion, Nikki Haley, US ambassador, stated the sanctions “ship a robust message that the worldwide group is united in looking for accountability for perpetrators of human trafficking and smuggling.”

Mrs Haley stated blacklisting the six males is “half of a bigger worldwide effort to hunt accountability for these concerned in migrant smuggling and trafficking that threatens the peace, safety, or stability of Libya.”

In choosing the six males, she stated there was “shut collaboration” between the US, Britain, the Netherlands, France, and Germany.
