Zoo employees are devastated by the loss

A monkey from Belfast Zoo has died after being hit by a automotive.

The spider monkey, which had escaped from the zoo on Saturday, was “clipped by a automotive” on the M2 motorway in north Belfast that night.

Zoo keepers had been monitoring the monkey earlier than the incident occurred. It was taken again to the zoo, however died shortly afterwards.

Belfast Metropolis Council stated they had been investigating how the monkey escaped its enclosure.
