Who would like their jeans to be twisted?

These jeans look, they contort, they, as their prevailing name, twisted.

If the jeans on straight legs are … Finally, straight and twisted jeans have legs that lean inside, like the curved members of a horseshoe. Consider a cowboy with a horse’s califrete jeans. Now imagine that these jeans are stuck in this way permanently, their legs stumbles like a triangle. The most evident, twisted jeans have an inclined seam which turns forward with jeans, meeting your shoe laces for a small confab.

It is a specific form. And yet, on the jeans market, the torsion is in place. Swedish consumer minimalists in COS sell $ 169 in jeans with a powerful swooping seam, while “twisted twisted jets of the wide leg” offer a more modest Bent, losing about five diplomas. Alaïa’s twist will cost you: this company sells $ 1,400 jeans with mirror image seams on each leg which cuts it like two oblique bars in italics.

Lemaire, the French label Zippy, has sold years twisted denim pants with legs all in curves and convex seams. He calls them “a lemaire classic” on his website and often shows them on the track. The style is also attractive for the more native labels of Instagram, like Poolhouse, a brand from New York who came to selling twisted “Papa” that reminds me nothing but Popeye the sailor. (Popeye may have been the original paragragon in carved denim.)

“It is an instant gratuity because you can look at someone who wears twisted jeans and know that he is in twisted jeans because the seam is directly in front of you,” said Luis Osuna, owner of Silverlake Market, a vintage boutique in Los Angeles. Mr. Osuna knows twisted jeans in their relatively prehistoric form in the levi collections of the 1990s and 2000s. Like the Tiger Onitsuka sneakers and the Ringer T-shirts, the folded jeans of the red lines and Levi engineering are a Y2K style assignment. He saw these jeans sell a few hundred dollars. “It’s a subtle detail, but he communicates something,” said Mr. Osuna.

The twisted denim micro-motion is a reminder that fashion trends are often fueled by the narcissism of small differences. The seam was once there, now it is there, and for people who chroned such things, it is a radical migration.

“It is not that different that no one can wear it,” said Rebekah Sentler, who lives in Brooklyn and sells vintage clothes on Depop. She gets in engineering jeans from Levi from Japan and has seen their price increase in the past year. She recently sold three pairs for $ 150 each.

“They are definitely more difficult to find, and they become more expensive,” said Ms. Ressler.

Elliot Duprey, a content creator in New York, recently bought a pair of Black Lemaire Twisted jeans. He has not tried to overrehae his purchase too much. “It’s just a way to make the wide jeans interesting rather than simply Baggy,” said Duprey. This inclined form, he added, is just “so cool”.

The prevalence of jeans could also be read as a clever effort of companies to keep buyers by making them anxious that their simple oversized jeans are not fresh enough.

“It is this classic thing of” hey, we are a brand, we had the band, which made the headlines, what do we do we do now? “” Said Amy Leveron, owner of Denim Dudes, a fashionable advice that works with Denim Brands. “This is to update the baggy.”

It is not because a garment is an update. Rikke Korff, a veteran of the denim industry, designed the original form in 1999 during his stay in Levi’s. (The Patent of Form, filed by Levi’s in 1999, attributes to Mrs. Korff as her inventor.)

“I wanted to find a style of construction that seemed really modern, really simple and, at the same time, had the feeling of being hyper-functional,” said Ms. Korff. She picked up the twisted idea of the authentic administration of the 1950s of Lévi, who were known to naturally bow to the seams after being submerged.

“When I heard that, I said to myself,” Oh my God, it’s brilliant-I can use it, “she said. Its original design was a radical reimagination of the way the jeans should sit: the seat has voluntarily lowered, and the side stretches curled up, like a car of its track.

The jeans were, to use a polarizing term, a touch steampunk, with architectural panels and articulated seams like the shell of a robot. (Levi presented them with a bizarre announcement in which the members of the models twisted like the hands on a clock.)

But there is, among young consumers in particular, a yen for the convoluted jeans of the 90s. It is not a simple oh-i-weh-i-Was-yre nostalgia (although it is partially that); It is a search for something more striking than today’s prosaic legs today.

“It very much reflected this era in the late 90s in the early 90s, when design was more complex and more creative, honestly,” said Ms. Léveron.

Mr. Osuna noted that his generation is approached on British fashion magazines like the face, not only for their fashion features, but for their ads. There, he said, they meet “these twisted and paved jeans with crazy pocket details, stuff with big backs of the loop”.

“Many of these things were vintage design references but taken, like a completely different field,” said Mr. Osuna.

As for Ms. Korff, she left Levi’s four years after the presentation of the twisted jeans, separating from herself as a designer. However, red jeans is a creation that it cannot shake.

“I continue to receive a phone call from a person who wants to make a new version or a copy,” she said. Overall, it is delighted to see the concept twisted always on the market.

“It’s now just in ether,” she said. “People use it freely as they wish.”
