The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has identified the victims of a brazen shooting in Whistler, B.C.
Two men were shot dead outside a hotel in the busy village in broad daylight on Sunday.
IHIT has confirmed that it was a targeted shooting and is linked to the ongoing conflict between gangs in the Lower Mainland.
Video posted on social media shows two bodies on the ground just outside the Sundial Hotel, one surrounded by blood.
Investigators identified the victims as Satindera Gill and Meninder Dhaliwal.
Both were known to the police.
The pair were shot at around 12:20 p.m.
One died on the spot, the other succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
A burning vehicle thought to be linked to the shooting was found a five-minute drive away on Ptarmigan Place.
According to the RCMP, two people were then taken into custody.
“Thanks to the aggressive response and rapid collection of evidence by officers, Sea-to-Sky RCMP were able to locate and apprehend several individuals,” said Sgt. Timothy Pierotti, from IHIT.
The shooting happened just steps from the gondola in Whistler Village.
Residents of the village were ordered to shelter in place as police responded.
« Although this was a brazen daytime shooting in a bustling village, there are no further risks to the public believed to exist, thanks to the quick response of Sea-to RCMP members. -Sky, » said Pierotti.
Anyone who was in the Sundial Crescent or Blueberry Drive area, where the burning vehicle was located, between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. with dash cam video is urged to contact IHIT immediately.
