The story of a New York bodega employee being charged with murder for protecting himself from an assault is a sad sign of the Big Apple era. Progressive district attorney Alvin Bragg routinely offers clemency to felons, but he threw the book at the bodega clerk.

According to news reports, the July 1 dispute began when a woman’s payment card was declined as she tried to buy a bag of crisps. The video shows her yelling at bodega worker Jose Alba that her boyfriend is « gonna come over here right now and fuck you. » The boyfriend, Austin Simon, 35, entered the bodega, and security camera footage shows him confronting Mr Alba and shoving and grabbing him.
