Western University students set to protest school’s COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates

LONDON, Ont. – A group of Western University students are planning to stage a protest today against the school’s COVID-19 mandates.

The University of London, Ontario, announced Monday that everyone on campus in the fall must have at least three COVID-19 injections and wear masks in classrooms.

Western is the only post-secondary university in Canada that makes reminders mandatory for all students and staff on campus.

The University of Toronto and Trent University require those living in residence to receive three and two doses, respectively, and recommend that everyone else on campus keep their vaccinations up to date.

Most universities have not imposed vaccination mandates for the fall semester, and the province lifted rules for proof of vaccination in public spaces months ago.

London is also hosting a Stanley Cup parade today featuring local hockey player Nazem Kadri.

This report from The Canadian Press was first published on August 27, 2022.
