West Virginia’s failed tax reform


Sen. Joe Manchin isn’t the only politician dropping West Virginia these days. Add the Republicans in the State Senate who are defeating a bipartisan effort to cut taxes for all Mountain Staters.

West Virginia ended fiscal year 2022 with a budget surplus of $1.3 billion, and some $600 million remains unallocated. Last week, the State House voted 78 to 7 for a governor-promoted income tax cut. Jim Justicewith 11 Democrats joining the Republican majority.
