We will shoot down foreign drones, says Serbian president – POLITICO

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić on Tuesday ordered Serbian forces to shoot down foreign drones entering the country’s airspace.
According to unconfirmed reports from the Serbian pro-government daily Večernje Novosti, the order was issued after the detection of two drones near the town of Raska, near the Kosovo border, where tensions erupted during the summer.
The drones were allegedly monitoring Serbian army bases in the region, but left the country’s airspace after Serbian fighter jets were scrambled in response. POLITICO could not independently verify the report.
The incident came amid escalating tensions between Serbia and Kosovo, after Pristina ordered ethnic Serbian residents to replace their Serbian license plates with Kosovo-issued ones from here October 31. EU and US officials have worked to bridge the differences between Belgrade and Pristina.
According to the Serbian Defense Ministry, Vučić inspected military garrisons in Raska on Tuesday, saying « the Serbian army is ready to face any task ». The Serbian Armed Forces were placed on high combat alert.
