Wayne Rooney back in MLS?
DC United and its former player, England soccer legend Wayne Rooney, have reportedly discussed the team’s head coaching position, which is currently vacant.

The 36-year-old retired recently coached Derby County in England but chose to leave the team in June after they were relegated to the Third Division.
Rooney played for DC United in 2018 and 2019, scoring 23 goals in 48 Major League Soccer appearances. According to the league’s website, there is interest from both sides for the Englishman to return to Washington, but this time on the sidelines.
DC United have been without a pilot since April, since Argentina’s Hernan Losada was let go after just over a season. It was his assistant Chad Ashton who acted as acting instructor, but the experience did not bear fruit.
The team is at the bottom of the Eastern Conference and lost its last game, against the Philadelphia Union on Friday, by a score of 7-0. « It was an embarrassing performance, » said Sorry Ashton after the game, according to MLSsoccer.com.
« They were more competitive, more hardworking, they were better than us, they wanted more than us, » he added. I don’t have many explanations. It’s embarassing. I apologize to the amateurs. I apologize for our management. I apologize for such a weak performance.”
