Members of the United Conservative Party of Alberta gather near Edmonton on Saturday to vote on a series of policy proposals at the party’s first annual general meeting under the leadership of Premier Danielle Smith.

Smith will deliver a keynote address at 1 p.m. from the River Cree Resort in Enoch. She will then give a press conference to the media at 2 p.m.

Another Airdrie East policy proposal calls on the party to « respect the rights of parents and guardians not to require them to affirm or socially condition a child into a gender identity inconsistent with the child’s birth sex. child,” arguing that in the absence of evidence of neglect or criminal abuse, parents are in the best position to guide their child’s development.

A Calgary-Klein resolution argues that the party should establish legal requirements for the government to consult with stakeholders and the public before enacting “significant” legislation, arguing that the UCP government has demonstrated a lack of communication. While a resolution championed by the Calgary North West riding association would call on the provincial government to ensure municipal councillors, administration and staff register as lobbyists if they do business with the province .
