Speaking to reporters in Turkmenistan on Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin answered questions about several recent remarks by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. At the last G7 summit, the British leader joked that his allies should strip naked for the photo op – to show they’re “tougher than Putin”.
“I don’t know how they wanted to strip, waist high or not, but I think it would be a disgusting sight anyway.” joked the Russian president. “Everything should be harmoniously developed in a person, both body and soul. However, in order for everything to be harmonious, one must give up excessive drinking and break other bad habits, start doing exercise, practice a sport.
Another recent remark from Johnson suggested that what he described as a “macho invasion war » in Ukraine would not happen “if Putin was a woman, which he obviously is not.”
The Russian leader replied: “I just want to remind you of the events in modern history, when Margaret Thatcher took the decision to launch military action against Argentina over the Falkland Islands. Here is a woman who decides to launch military action. Where are the Falkland Islands and where is Britain?” And that was dictated only by imperial ambitions.
“So coming from an acting British Prime Minister, that’s not exactly a correct remark in terms of what’s happening today.”
Vladimir Putin visited Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on Wednesday on his first trip abroad since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. He participated in the Sixth Caspian Summit, meeting with the leaders of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The day before, he traveled to Tajikistan and met its president Emomali Rahmon.
