Virginia’s Youngkin to campaign with Oregon GOP gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan after Biden’s visit

Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin will travel to Oregon next week to join GOP gubernatorial candidate Christine Drazan on the campaign trail.

Youngkin will appear alongside Drazan at a campaign rally at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Aurora, Ore. — about 25 miles south of Portland.

« Couldn’t be happier to announce Governor (Glenn Youngkin) will be joining us on the trail next week, » Drazan tweeted.

Youngkin’s scheduled appearance will follow President Biden’s visit on Friday and Saturday, to campaign for Drazan’s Democratic rival, Tina Kotek.

Drazan and Kotek appear to be neck and neck, and endorsements from the likes of Youngkin and Biden underscore Oregon as a battleground state heading into November’s midterms.

If Drazan won, she would be the first GOP governor since Victor Atiyeh, elected in 1978 and re-elected in 1982.

She noted that pundits were dismissive of a possible Republican gubernatorial victory in Virginia this time last year.

« Virginians came together last year and stood up for parents, better schools, safer streets and a lower cost of living. Virginians turned a culture of defeat into a spirit of victory when they elected Governor Youngkin, » she said. « Oregonians are set to do the same on November 8 when they elect Christine Drazan as their next governor. »

Biden’s visit to Oregon is part of his three-state trip west to promote his administration’s achievements and rally his party.

The president arrived in Vail, Colorado on Wednesday and will travel to California to lead a fundraiser for the House Democrat’s campaign arm before heading to Oregon.
