The US Treasury will not pass Hunter Biden’s financial information to Republican lawmakers because it says the request must go through a committee with Democratic approval.
Republican lawmakers have been seeking information regarding « suspicious activity reports » on President Joe Biden’s son, but the Treasury’s decision to require the request go through a Democratic-controlled committee makes that virtually impossible.
These suspicious activity reports include large cash transactions or transfers over $5,000, Reuters reported. Such reports could indicate fraud or money laundering or they could also be legal.
The ruling is the latest in a series of attempts by Republicans to get the information as the Treasury continues to deny their efforts.

In July, Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., also a ranking member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, accused the Biden administration of changing standard operating rules to protect Hunter Biden from a possible investigation. led by Republicans.
“The Biden administration is restricting congressional access to SARs, and Committee Republicans are investigating whether this longstanding policy change is motivated by efforts to protect Hunter Biden and potentially President Biden from scrutiny,” said he wrote in a letter dated July 6, 2022.
In the letter, the Republican reiterated the request for documents after Treasury failed to turn over any « documents or information. »
According to the report, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is asking for a statement of intent to seek the information and says her refusal to comply « is not a political process. »
« Since the beginning of this administration, the Treasury has made SARs available in response to authorized requests from the committee and continues to engage in the process with all individual members seeking information. »
