US Coast Guard rescues man and two dogs from stricken sailboat off Vancouver Island

VICTORIA — A sailor and his two dogs are recovering on Vancouver Island thanks to United States Coast Guard rescue action.
The man and his canine companions were on board a small sailboat off the southwestern tip of Vancouver Island early Wednesday when it lost power and was swept away on rocks.
A social media post from the Coast Guard’s Pacific Northwest Sector says a helicopter crew from Port Angeles, Washington responded to the emergency.
They winched the man and a dog from the sailboat and delivered them to Victoria for treatment.
It was not until the crew returned to the wreckage to assess possible environmental damage that the second dog was spotted.
The coastguard says the animal was safely removed from the sailboat and reunited with its owner.
