University of Toronto ranked 18th best university in the world

The University of Toronto is in the Top 20 of the 2023 Times Higher Education ranking of the best universities in the world.

U of T ranked 18th out of 1,799 schools in 104 countries and regions, scoring 87.4 out of 100, beating even such respected institutions as Cornell (85.9), UCLA (85.8) and UCL (85.7).
« This latest ranking further confirms the University of Toronto’s global leadership in key aspects of our mission – from research impact and teaching excellence to fostering a global perspective. « , University of Toronto President Meric Gertler said in a statement.

According to U of T, this is the fourth year in a row that she has ranked 18th in this ranking system.

On the negative side, Metropolitan Toronto University (formerly Ryerson) was second to last of 31 Canadian institutions that made the list, along with the University of Northern British Columbia and Lakehead University.
TMU sits in the 800-1,000 range in the rankings with an overall score of between 29.8 and 33.9. There was no immediate response to the university’s comments.
Other Canadian universities in the top 100 include the University of British Columbia (40th), McGill University in Montreal (46th) and McMaster University in Hamilton (85th).
According to the ranking, the top three in the world are Oxford University (UK) at No. 1., Harvard University (USA) at No. 2, and Cambridge University (UK). Uni) and Stanford University (USA) tied at No. 3.
