Unemployment claims rose slightly last week

Claims for unemployment benefits by American workers rose last week, reflecting a still-tight labor market that has run out of steam since the start of the year.

Initial jobless claims, an indicator of layoffs, rose to a seasonally adjusted 228,000 last week from 219,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said Thursday.
