Ukraine shakes up its main security agency – RT Russia and the former Soviet Union

Parliament sacks National Security Service chief, while President Zelensky sacks five of agency’s regional heads
Ukraine’s parliament has approved the dismissal of the head of the Security Service (SBU), as President Vladimir Zelensky sacked the heads of SBU departments in five of the country’s regions on Tuesday.
SBU leaders in Sumy, Dnepropetrovsk, Zhytomir, Transcarpathia and Poltava regions have all been replaced.
The agency’s deputy director, Vladimir Gorbenko, was also removed from his post by presidential decree.
Shortly after President Zelensky announced the reshuffle, Ukraine’s parliament voted in favor of his request to sack SBU chief Ivan Bakanov, suspended since Sunday.
The president said earlier that there was « crawling” betrayal in the SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding the conflict with Russia.
More than 650 criminal cases have been filed against employees of the two agencies, he said.
