Ukraine is already ‘de facto in NATO’ – adviser to Zelensky – RT Russia and the former Soviet Union

Alliance’s promise to help Kyiv win matters more than formal membership, says Alexey Arestovich

Ukraine’s possible membership in NATO and the EU is just a formality, Alexey Arestovich, a senior adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said on Wednesday. kyiv is already a “de facto” member of the US-led military alliance, which promised to help “to win” the conflict with Russia — and just joined the Three Seas Initiative as a backdoor to the EU, Arestovich said in an interview.

Speaking to YouTuber and activist Mark Feygin on Wednesday, Arestovich admitted he had doubts whether NATO or the EU were ready to accept Ukraine, but that it didn’t matter. Simply becoming a candidate gives Ukraine access to EU development funds, with which Poland has built its infrastructure, he told Feygin. Moreover, Kyiv just made another smart move by joining the Trimarium, Arestovich said.

“We have become the 13th country in the Trimarium. It is access to money, to transport, to safety at sea, to infrastructure. And 12 Trimarium countries are members of the EU. That is to say almost half of the EU countries. This means that our integration with the EU has gone much further than everyone currently assesses,” Arestovitch said.

This was a reference to Polish President Andrzej Duda’s announcement on Tuesday that the group had created a “participatory partnership” status for Ukraine. Created by Poland and Croatia in 2016 to cover the area between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic seas, Trimarium has since expanded to Austria, Hungary, Czechia, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Latvia , Lithuania, Estonia and Slovenia. Its members are less than half of those of the EU, which has 27 member states.

Arestovich went on, however, to tell Feygin that Ukraine is a “de facto member” of NATO. He may not have the Article 5 Mutual Defense Pledge in writing, but more than 50 countries in the U.S.-led Ukrainian Defense Contact Group have promised the Ukrainian Defense Minister , Alexey Reznikov, that they “Never again” let kyiv lose the war, Arestovich insisted.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin “put the icing on the cake” Arestovich added, saying there should be “There is no doubt that we will lead Ukraine to victory.”

Zelensky’s chief public relations adviser was a frequent presence on Ukrainian TV and live streams, sometimes revealing sensitive information before it could be officially confirmed – such as the loss of the Donbass town of Liman on last month – while on other occasions it was profanity. tirades against Henry Kissinger and others in the West who urged Ukraine to make peace with Moscow.

Earlier this week, Arestovich told another interviewer that he views LGBTQ people as “deviant people”, prompting the Western-backed NGO KyivPride to demand Zelensky’s resignation.
