UK sets date for King Charles III coronation – POLITICO

LONDON – Get ready for a lot more pomp and ceremony in the UK. The coronation of King Charles III will take place on Saturday May 6, 2023, Buckingham Palace announced on Tuesday.
Charles ascended the throne last month following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, but an official coronation date had yet to be set.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, Buckingham Palace finally set the date and confirmed that the coronation ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, the venue for the Queen’s coronation and state funeral. It will be led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, head of the Church of England.
« The ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside the Queen Consort, » the statement read, referring to Charles’ wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. “The coronation will reflect the role of the monarch today and look to the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry,” he added.
