UK breaks all-time heat record – and it’s still morning – POLITICO
The UK broke its all-time heat record on Tuesday, with the town of Charlwood in the Surrey district registering a temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office announcement the provisional report before noon, warning that « temperatures are expected to rise further during the day ».
The heatwave that swept across much of Western Europe broke all records in places across Spain, France, Ireland and Wales.
Temperatures are expected to exceed 40C on Tuesday for the first time in British Isles history. The dangerously hot weather has been made worse by climate change.
