UFC Fight Night picks, predictions today for Dos Anjos vs. Fiziev

After two title fights at a PPV last weekend, we’re back at the UFC APEX center in Las Vegas for Fight Night.

Hope you liked Luca Fury’s appearance last weekend where we went 1-1 after Holloway was crushed by Volkanovski. Having guest appearances to help break up fights is something to look for in the future, especially for UFC weekly betting picks. here at La Poste.

This weekend’s fight card is a bit light on name value, but there are some intriguing fights. Interestingly enough, there are a few early preliminary fights that are stylistically more competitive and exciting than those on the main maps.

UFC Fight Night Predictions Today

Rafael Dos Anjos (+180) against Rafael Fiziev (-225)

A very interesting main event between former statesman Dos Anjos and up-and-coming Fiziev. Skill for skill, Dos Anjos should beat Fiziev, but will father’s time finally come from the former Brazilian champion?

Fiziev has an extensive kickboxing resume where he was 38-9 with about three-quarters of those knocked out. Fiziev is also the best athlete here, so speed and striking are what Fiziev wants to rely on to lead him to victory.

Notably, Fiziev is yet to go five rounds in the octagon. When he fought Bobby Green (a fight many had scored for Green), Fiziev looked tired after winning the first round. Fiziev won this fight in three rounds by decision, but there are very reasonable question marks over his cardio in a five-round fight.

For Dos Anjos, he is not badly affected. Standing heavy on his front foot negates his ability to move side to side and keep his head off the midline. This could spell disaster for Dos Anjos who could be knocked out early in this fight.

For betting, the best way to bet on this fight is to watch the first round and see what Dos Anjos looks like. You will get a lot of information about how it will go. If Dos Anjos survives and pushes Fiziev’s pace, a live bet on Dos Anjos is a solid investment.

Most bookmakers anticipate a victory for Fiziev by decision (+125 on BetMGM). It’s a bad bet. Fiziev has never done five rounds and Dos Anjos is probably his competitive best yet. If Fiziev wins, it should probably come in the first three rounds.

Dos Anjos’ pre-fight pace is key to victory. He is a very intelligent fighter who must avoid Fiziev’s speed and power. Fiziev could win this one by knockout and light him into oblivion but the value is on Dos Anjos to win by decision.

• Rafael Dos Anjos wins by decision +390 (FanDuel)

Ronnie Lawrence (-125) against Saidyokub Kakhramonov (+105)

The first fight on the map! A better bet for tonight’s UFC card comes with this grappling savant Ronnie Lawrence taking on Saidyokub Kakhramonov. Good luck to the UFC announcement team pronouncing this one correctly multiple times tonight.

Ronnie Lawrence burst onto the UFC scene dominating his opponents with overwhelming grappling and control. However, a major road bump hit in round three against Leomana Martinez. Lawrence was nearly knocked out in that fight.

The wrestling exchanges for this fight should be very interesting as Kakhramonov put up a nasty set of guillotine chokes against Trevin Jones. Without a doubt, this guillotine will be tested early against Lawrence who will shoot for takedowns throughout with (potentially) his neck exposed.

Kakhramonov’s guillotine aside, his grappling defense didn’t look great. Against a better wrestler, it would make any trainer tired that the jumping guillotine would only tire your arms and cause you to lose rounds.

Lawrence should win rounds and make a decision here more often than not. Take Lawrence here as the -120 favorite with clear cardio and grappling edges.

This parlay was placed on PointsBet Sportsbook and the odds were accurate at the time of writing.

• Lawrence (-125) + Johnson / Mullarkey on 1.5 rounds (-152) + Sherman / Vanderaa « on » 1.5 rounds (-179) + Kennedy Nzechukwu (-150)

Another parlay to add to the card for this weekend’s Fight Night. A few notes to complete the breakdown of bets.

• Flirted with Michael Johnson in this bet, he’s my third favorite bet on the card as a +200 underdog. For now, « over » 1.5 should be fine as neither fighter is a bona fide finisher. The odds suggest otherwise, which is based on a Mullarkey finish against Khama Worthy (since cut).

• Sherman vs. Vanderaa is one of the worst main card fights we’ve seen in ages. Neither poses as a legit UFC-caliber fighter, so this one should be a low-level affair that could easily go the distance.
• Difficult for Karl Roberson who faces Kennedy Nzechukwu. Maybe Roberson has a round of cardio before Nzechukwu probably finishes in round two or three.
