twelve works to revitalize the east end of Montreal

Developing a strategic pole of green energies, a structuring public transport network and accelerating the reconstruction of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital: the Parti Québécois (PQ) wants to revitalize the east of Montreal, « abandoned » by previous governments. Candidates in this area of the city unveiled their 12-step plan at a press conference on Wednesday.

« The Parti Québécois has a long tradition of defending the east of Montreal, a sector that has unfortunately been underfunded and neglected for too long, » said PQ leader Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon. “It is not normal that we do not give the same tools to succeed to the citizens of the East as to those elsewhere in Montreal.”

According to the PQ, the reconstruction of the Maisonneuve-Rosemont hospital must be completed “as soon as possible”. It is also promised to increase the nursing staff there so that it is proportional to the local population.

Jointly with Montreal public health, a committee on the tightening of emission standards for particles and metals in the air would be formed. Air quality is an issue in the sector, in particular due to arsenic fumes produced by the CCR refinery.

« When I see the state of certain essential infrastructures, such as Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont, when I learn that the quality of the air reduces life expectancy, when I see the absence of adequate public transport, I finds this unacceptable,” said Mr. St-Pierre-Plamondon. “We have to get out of immobility, and it is above all a question of political will”.
