In a statement released Friday, the Alberta government said the charges relate to the July 18, 2020 accident involving an ice exploration vehicle that had 25 people on board and rolled down an embankment on the glacier. Athabasca in Jasper National Park.
Three passengers died in the rollover and a number of other people were injured, including the driver, the statement added.
Brewsters Inc. has been charged with eight counts under the Occupational Health and Safety Act related to the use and maintenance of seat belts, failure to control hazards and failure to ensure that the equipment was in good working order.
The case is scheduled for Jasper Provincial Court on June 23.
A separate Alberta RCMP criminal investigation into the incident has been concluded, but a review is still ongoing, the province added, and as required by law, officers have shared all documents requested as part of the investigation. inquiry with Alberta’s Minister of Labor and Immigration.
The RCMP should notify victims and families at a later date.
