Today’s Best MLB Prop Bets

Bühler… Bühler?

Walker Buehler has been one of baseball’s top pitchers since the start of the 2018 season, and he’ll be in the running again for the NL Cy Young Award in 2022.

The right-hander is 4-1 with a 2.81 ERA right now, and he had a 1.96 ERA before he had a poor outing against the Philadelphia Phillies last game. That said, his numbers should improve fairly quickly and a meeting with the Arizona Diamondbacks should help him.

When Buehler faced this Arizona squad on April 25, the right-hander struck out 10 in a complete shutout. Los Angeles won this game 4-0 and the team is favored to win again here. In addition to dominating the Diamondbacks in his last outing, Buehler also went 3-0 with an 0.89 ERA in three starts against Arizona last year. He struck out 25 batters in those three starts.

With all that in mind, it’s hard to see why Buehler wouldn’t hit the six strikeout mark in this game. It has some of the best things in the game, and this Diamondbacks lineup can really struggle to come into contact. In fact, Arizona has the highest strikeout rate in baseball against right-handed pitchers at 25.7%.

To take: Walker Buehler Over 5.5 strikeouts (-118)

rice time

Rizzo is batting just .154 since the start of May, which has dropped his batting average from .269 to .225 this season. The left-handed slugger, however, has registered at least one hit in five of the last six games, and he has had at least two total goals in three of those six games. Now Rizzo has a match he’s really going to look forward to.

The last time Rizzo faced Orioles starter Jordan Lyles, the former Cubs superstar hit two homers from the right-hander — and eventually ended up hitting a third from the Baltimore bullpen later in the game.

Of course, it’s not entirely fair to expect that kind of power again, but this is a match that Rizzo is clearly comfortable with, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he had several hits here. And even if he doesn’t, a double would help bettors cash out.

It should also be noted that Rizzo has always hit the right-handed pitcher well, as he bats .272 against right-handers in his career. Compared to the .254 he hits against lefties, you can see that’s the type of game he prefers.

To take: Anthony Rizzo Over 1.5 goals in total (+130)

Grand finale

Our final player prop of the day will feature Grandal looking to find a way to get a hit against Zack Greinke. The receiver has actually had a lot of success against the right-hander in his career, as he’s 13 for 48 against the veteran starter.

He’s not the hitter he was back then, but he should take some comfort from Greinke here.

Grandal also had a hit in two of his last three games, which took his putrid batting average to .174. Sure, that number isn’t something you really want to hear before backing a player to get a hit, but the point is that his confidence should come back a bit after a few decent performances this week.

Also, this game looks like it has a good chance to top the total, which means we can expect good performance in unexpected places.

To take: Yasmani Grandal Over 0.5 successes (-180)
