The sound of braided hair: Wizard of dynamic electronic sound, Matthew Cardinal is in the groups nêhiyawak and Wayfinding, and his solo album Asterisms was one of the best of 2020. But on Saturday afternoon north of the Ocicwan contemporary art center, he achieves an artistic performance. Through gentle movements, layering sound through a modular synthesizer, Cardinal slowly braids her hair allowing the ethereal sounds to reverberate, amplifying a moment of stillness. “A sweet wonder considers how our ancestors connected to the act through sound, touch and feeling,” notes her artist statement. « To pass on generous acts of love and tenderness through the generations while weaving together the spirit of listening. »

The backyard does comedy: Haha, nice capitalization on the verb there, dirty birds! This split comedy festival features two waves of comedians: Kendall Dandocks and local headliner Sterling Scott for the matinee hosted by Kelowna’s Tim Nutt, then Kyle Canniff and Nutt headliner hosted by Lars Callieou for the lineup of the evening. Both Scott and Nutt are very funny, with the latter tweeting recently: ‘I’m a Tory guy (no love for the current Prime Minister) but dear Jesus, can the right put someone worth voting for? for the elections? All I see is a clownish parade of inane t-waffles that I wouldn’t put in charge of a lemonade stand. Shots fired!
