Three-time MP Ameet Satam is the new president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mumbai unit, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Monday (August 25).

The move came ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, likely later this year. Fadnavis expressed confidence that under Satam’s leadership, the party would regain power in the civic body.

Satam, 49, represents Andheri West Assembly constituency and won this seat for three consecutive terms.

Speaking at the state BJP headquarters, Fadnavis noted that the party performed well in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections under the leadership of outgoing Mumbai unit chief Ashish Shelar, who has since taken up ministerial responsibilities.

“Following state-level discussions by BJP president Ravindra Chavan and senior leaders, Ameet Satam was chosen for the post,” Fadnavis said.

He described Satam as a “learned and assertive legislator” who is well-versed in Mumbai’s challenges. “I am confident that under his leadership, the BJP will maintain its momentum in the municipal elections and regain power in the BMC,” he added.

Fadnavis further said that the party, with the support of senior leaders at the state and city levels, was aiming to set new benchmarks in the upcoming municipal elections.
