Jerusalem – The figures alone cannot capture the toll that the War of Israel -Hamas took on the Gaza Strip.
But they can help us understand how the conflict has turned the life of 2.1 million Palestinians living in the territory and decimated the 3,65 square kilometers of the territory (140 square miles).
Out of 10 people, one was killed or injured in an Israeli strike. Nine are moved. At least three have not eaten for days. Out of 100 children, four lost one or both parents. Out of 10 buildings which were in the pre-war of Gaza, eight are either damaged or flattened. Out of 10 houses, nine are destroyed. On all 10 acres of cultivated land, eight are shaved (more than three hectares out of four).
The war began when Hamas activists launched a surprise attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mainly civilians and bringing 251 hostages to Gaza.
In response, Israeli leaders promised a punitive offensive on the strip to destroy Hamas and release the hostages.
Here is an overview of the devastation that followed, by the figures.
About 11% of the Gaza population was killed or injured
The cemeteries overflow. The graves put the band. Israeli air strikes have killed entire families at home. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, more than 2,000 people looking for food were killed, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. In some cases, Israel admitted to having shot warning on chaotic crowds trying to obtain desperately necessary help.
The Israeli attacks on health establishments and the limitations of the entry of medical supplies have left outdated doctors to treat advanced burns with rudimentary equipment. Israel says that it strikes hospitals because Hamas operates and uses them as command centers, although it has offered limited evidence. Hamas security personnel were seen in hospitals and has kept certain inaccessible areas. Israel has said restrictions on imports are necessary to prevent Hamas from getting weapons.
War is the deadliest conflict for journalists, health workers and United Nations workers in history, according to the Committee to protect journalists and the UN, the British Medical Journal says that the prevalence of patients with injuries of explosives in Gaza is compared to data on injured American combat forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Experts commissioned by a United Nations organization and large rights defense groups have accused Israel of genocide, responsible that he deny with vehement.
In all, the Israel campaign killed more than 67,000 Palestinians and injured nearly 170,000, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. According to the World Health Organization.
The number of deaths does not include thousands of raw people buried under the rubble. The ministry – which is part of the government managed by Hamas and endowed with health professionals – does not distinguish between civilians and combatants in its count. Its figures are considered a reliable estimate of the UN and many independent experts.
Israel criticizes Hamas for the high civil balance sheet, claiming that the group’s presence in residential areas has transformed the population into human shields. However, his strikes have often struck houses, killing a lot inside without any word from whom was the target.
Almost the whole population is moved and thousands of people are missing
Innumerable Palestinian families have fled the length of Gaza and back, forced to move every few months to dodge successive Israeli offensives. Many have been moved several times, moving between apartments and fortune tents while trying to survive. The cities in a sordid tent now extend in a large part of the south of Gaza.
Travel separated families. The heavy bombardment left thousands of people buried under the rubble. The troops bring together and hold men, from tens to several hundred at the same time, in search of everything they suspect from the bonds of Hamas. The result is that families separate.
Israel occupies the vast majority of Gaza
The Israeli army has taken control of the vast majority of Gaza, pushing most of the Palestinian population in a small area along the southern coast. Under Israeli control, Gaza lands have been transformed. The forces have flattened or in the bulldozer of whole districts of Gaza City and small agricultural cities dotting the border, carved new roads across the territory and built new military positions.
The bombing has lined the Gaza strip in a rubble cover about 12 times the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza. Using Gaza imaging from space, the UN satellite center says that at least 102,067 buildings were destroyed. In the wreckage are the ruins of primary schools and universities, medical clinics and mosques, greenhouses and family houses.
At least 30% of people spend days without eating
Hundreds of Palestinians set foot in charity kitchens that are jostling for a bowl of lenses. Babies are so emaciated that they weigh less than at birth. After months of aid group warning, the main global authority on food crises said in August that Gaza City fell in famine. Israel challenges determination.
The cities were leveled
The cities scattered through the strip, where Palestinian farmers used to plant strawberries and watermelons, wheat and cereals, are now emptied and flattened. Between May and October 2025, Israeli bombing and demolitions practically erased the city of Khuzaa, whose rows of wheat and other cereals made it a bread basket for the city of Khan Younis.
With the war in his third year, Israel launched an offensive to resume Gaza City and killing Hamas activists who, according to him, hide it.
Israel says that it also aims to release the 48 hostages that remain in Gaza, including about 20 of which the government believes alive. Since the start of the war, 465 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza.
A new American peace plan is on the table, even if Israeli tanks and land troops threaten the heart of Gaza City.
