‘The Walking Dead’ Drops Movie Plans, Announces Rick & Michonne Limited Series

The Walking Dead Stars Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con to announce a new six-episode Rick and Michonne limited series that’s currently in the works. The two actors also revealed that a previously announced series of theatrical films starring Lincoln will no longer be moving forward.

The all-new show, from showrunner Scott Gimple, is described as “an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Separated by distance. By unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find themselves and who they were in a place and situation they’ve never known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims ? Winners? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they discover that they too are the walking dead?

Lincoln and Gurira showed no hard feelings about the film’s cancellation and instead shared their excitement about the currently untitled show they’re working on.

« It’s been the most amazing trip playing Rick Grimes for most of a decade, » Lincoln said. « The friendships I’ve made along the way are deep and lasting, so it’s only fitting that I can finally finish the story with Danai and Scott and the rest of the TWD family. I’m so excited to be back at the screen as Rick, reuniting with Danai as Michonne, and giving fans an epic love story to add to the Walking Dead universe.

« Michonne and this TWD family have meant a lot to me, and continuing the journey of these beloved characters, alongside Scott and Andy, both creatively and on camera, and bringing The Walking Dead fans something something really special is just glorious, » Gurira said. « I can’t wait to get back to the katana.

« Rick and Michonne are two of my favorite people and Danai and Andy are two of my favorite people, » Gimple said in a statement. « Working with each of them continues to be a dream come true. The three of us, along with an awesome cast of TWD stars and amazing new voices, are creating an insane love epic that’s worth the long, long wait.
