« The View » co-host Sara Haines claimed there were « no people having late-term abortions » during Wednesday’s episode of the daytime talk show.

Haines would go on to say that the GOP claim that the Democratic Party supports late-pregnancy abortions is a « myth » designed to achieve a political result. She eventually admitted that 1.3% of abortions are late abortions, but used that statistic to double down on her original argument.

Haines also argued that late abortions are only done for « heartrending medical reasons. »

On Wednesday, « The View » co-host Sarah Haines claimed that late-term abortions are a « myth » used to advance the pro-life political agenda.

The co-host’s statements came up during a segment on remarks by Sen. Lindsey Graham, RS.C., on a potential Republican bill to enact a federal limit on abortion beyond 15 weeks of pregnancy. Of course, the ladies of « The View » vehemently disagreed with Graham’s bill, which he said would go to a vote if his party wins a majority in Congress in November.

Although a few of the co-hosts sarcastically thanked the senator for urging Democratic voters to run to prevent pro-life Republicans from infringing on their right to choose.

Haines took aim at Graham’s bill, beginning by criticizing it for making room for red states and their tougher abortion restrictions, while blocking more pro-choice states from allowing it. beyond 15 weeks.

« The way he wrote this will allow states that have stricter rules – these 6-week bans – to say, ‘Oh, that’s okay. But if you’re more liberal than that, he’ll say, ‘No, you have to come back.’ So he also chose how it applies, » Haines explained.

The co-host went on to claim that Graham was justifying his pro-life bill through a political « myth ». She said: « He calls it a late, uh, late abortion act – by the way, 15 weeks for anyone who doesn’t know is a week into your second trimester. And just to clear up an oft-referenced myth that is used to achieve a certain political result, there are no people who have late-term abortions. »

« Say it again, » co-host Whoopi Goldberg told Haines, to re-emphasize the point. More categorically, Haines said, “There are no people having late abortions. The audience continued with applause.

Debunking the claim she just made, she continued, « 1.3! 1.3% of abortions are performed over 21 weeks, and usually for heartbreaking medical reasons. » Again, Whoopi wanted that emphasized again, so Haines repeated her claims. « This is only done for heartbreaking medical reasons. »

« I haven’t seen a single situation yet where someone decides that, » she continued, adding, « It’s a myth that is sold to achieve a certain political outcome. »

Earlier this year, Fox News Digital reported NPR’s findings that « collectively, 3% of abortions occur at 18 weeks gestation and beyond. » NPR, like Haines, sought to categorize late-term abortions as a negligible part of the abortion debate.

Although, as a prominent Twitter account noted at the time, « But the reason they only show % is because 10% of the 800,000 annual abortions is 80,000! For context: it doesn’t « There are only 12,000 firearm homicides in the United States each year. Post-first trimester abortions can be considered a pretty large amount for many people. »

Haines continued her numbers by saying, « And 91% of all abortions are done in the first trimester. » She then said, « So until we’re all clear on the information and the data, we shouldn’t play with this because it’s falsely shopped. »
