The Valcourt Ski-Doo Grand Prix canceled

The Grand Prix Ski-Doo in Valcourt, Estrie, which was to be held from February 11 to 13, 2022, has been canceled, due to the spread of COVID-19.

“It sure hurts our hearts […] During the grand prix weekend, we were able to attract around 30,000 people to the region, that’s more than the population! ”Suggested on Wednesday the new general manager of the Valcourt snowmobile grand prix, Guillaume Richard.

This is the second year in a row that this competition has suffered the same fate, but it is far from the only one this year. Sporting and corporate events and trade fairs of all kinds in Estrie are canceling one after the other. Times are hard for the center de foires de Sherbrooke and the small communities that organize gatherings. The most recent victim of COVID-19 is the Habitat Expo, which must also be canceled.

In 2020, 48 events had to be canceled, only twenty were presented, loss of income of more than $ 500,000. In 2021, $ 400,000 could not be collected. This year, already 12 events have been canceled. The actors of the Estrie event industry hope to be able to present events as quickly as possible, especially in Valcourt where next year could be the 40th anniversary of the grand prix.
