The Rouge et Or lift the Dunsmore Cup

The Laval University Rouge et Or is back at the top of Quebec university football. He regained his championship throne following a 25-24 win over the Montreal Carabins this afternoon at TELUS-UL Stadium.

After two years in Montreal, the Dunsmore Cup returns to Quebec after a hotly contested match. The Rouge et Or also earns the right to face the powerful Western University Mustangs next Saturday, in London, for the Mitchell Cup.

The match ended on the very last play of the game. A Vincent Blanchard goal kick missed and caught by the Carabins returner. The latter was however tackled before leaving the end zone, conceding at the same time the point of victory.

Moments earlier, with just 40 seconds left in the game, Carabins kicker Philippe Boyer sent everyone into overtime with a 39-yard field goal. Boyer had already missed field goals from 22 and 30 yards earlier in the game.

Metal shines

Kevin Mital was the spark plug for the Rouge et Or, scoring all three touchdowns for his team. The first on a two-yard run in the first quarter, then a second in the third quarter on a 50-yard play.

Among the Carabins, Hassane Dosso scored his team’s first touchdown. The other major of the Blues was successful on a punt blocked and brought back into the end zone by Julien Le Guéhennec.
