The result of the VP elections indicates the cross vote, Rijiju thanks India Block MPS for choosing the CP Radhakrishnan

The Minister of the Union, Kiren Rijiju, went excavation to the opposition unit after the candidate of the NDA, the CP Radhakrishnan, received more than the votes provided for during the vice-presidential election held on September 9. The results underlined the cross vote in the India block in favor of Radhakrishnan.

In an article on X, Rijiju said: “A special thank you to certain deputies of the India alliance who voted with` `Conscience ” for the candidate of the NDA, the CP Radhakrishnan, during the VP election. NDA and all our friendly deputies remain united.

Radhakrishnan was elected 15th vice-president of India on Tuesday, winning 452 votes against the opposition candidate and the former judge of the Supreme Court B Sudershan Reddy 300 votes.

Announcing the result, the secretary general of Rajya Sabha and return officer PC Mody said that 767 on 781 deputies voted with a total participation rate of 98.2%. He declared that 752 voting bulletins were valid and that 15 were not valid, lowering the majority required of votes of first preference to 377.
“I say that CP Radhakrishnan was elected as Vice-President of India, and the results will be communicated to the electoral commission,” said Mcy.

President Doupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Radhakrishnan, claiming that his decades of rich experience in public life will considerably contribute to the progress of the nation, will strengthen constitutional values and improve parliamentary discourse.

But his margin of victory was a setback to the opposition, who said that all his 315 deputies had remained united in the elections and voted for Reddy, their joint candidate. The margin of Radhakrishnan was larger than expected, the leaders of the BJP saying that it attracted the very support of the rival camp.

The NDA led by the BJP had on paper 427 deputies in its alliance, the Congress of the YSR also extending the support of its 11 MP to its candidate. Some deputies representing smaller parts also supported Radhakrishnan.

BJP leaders said that at least 15 opposition deputies had voted in favor of Radhakrishnan. There were clues to the power alliance that certain opposition deputies deliberately expressed disabled votes.

The electoral college for the vice -presidential election includes a total of 788 members – 245 from Rajya Sabha and 543 from Lok Sabha. The current force of the electoral college is 781 while six seats are vacant in Rajya Sabha and one in Lok Sabha.
