QUEBEC CITY — Théo Rochette scored the tying goal late in the second period and allowed the Quebec Remparts to come from behind to defeat the Rimouski Océanic 4-2 on Saturday.
James Malastesta, Evan Nause and Pier-Olivier Roy also scored for the Remparts. William Dumoulin and Luka Verreault provided the answer for the Océanic.
William Rousseau made 13 saves in the win. His vis-à-vis, Patrik Hamrla, saved 22 of the 25 shots he faced.
Malatesta opened the scoring in the first period. After a three-way rally with Frantisek Ridzon and Nathan Gaucher, he threaded the needle at the mouth of the net.
However, the Océanic responded in the second period. Dumoulin and then Verreault struck within four minutes to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
With less than four minutes to go, Rochette, captain of the Remparts, redirected Zachary Bolduc’s pass into an abandoned goal. Charles Savoie was also an accomplice of the net.
The Remparts continued where they left off in the third period. Taking advantage of a five-minute power play due to Charles Côté being sent off for high sticking, Nause surprised Hamrla with a precise wrist shot from the top of the slot.
With one minute and 30 seconds to go, Roy confirmed the victory for the Remparts with an empty net goal. Gaucher, a 2022 Anaheim Ducks first-round pick, got his second assist on the streak.
