The Piiec, subsidized European projects

Important projects of common European interest (Piec) are developed by groups of voluntary member states of the European Economic Area (EU members with Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein) and their companies in collaboration with the European Commission.

Their goal is to carry out common projects in value chains where market failures require public funding. These subsidies are in principle prohibited by European rules.

France is already involved in several Piiec in the areas of vehicle batteries, electronic chips, health innovations or hydrogen. Together with Germany, Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, raised the idea of launching similar projects in the fields of artificial intelligence or quantum computers.
