The party is finished: the installation of Windows 11 will require the Internet

Well, it was fun while it lasted. After a few years let it slide, Microsoft deletes the bypass solutions that allow you to install Windows 11 without internet connection or a Microsoft account.

The change currently occurs in a test version, but you will not be able to get Windows 11 without having a Microsoft account. Previously, you could avoid configuration screens that you would normally see on paid Windows installations.

The Windows Amanda Langowski Windows Langowski initiate program said on a blog article on Monday that these configuration screens – called the Windows configuration experience (or “Out of the Box Experience”) – are essential during installation.

“Although these mechanisms have often been used to circumvent the configuration of the Microsoft account, they also inadvertently ignore critical configuration screens, which allowed users to leave Oobe with a device that is not entirely configured for use,” said Langowski.

Several months ago, Microsoft disabled the “bypassnro command”, with which people could install Windows 11 without being on the internet or have a Microsoft account. This week’s revisions also eliminate the command “Start MS-CXH: Localonly”, which helped people install the operating system locally. This is roughly the last step to eliminate the possibility of installing Windows 11 without being connected to the Internet.

On the Subdredddit R / Windows11 /, there was a lively discussion – with the advantages and disadvantages – on Microsoft modifications. A Reddit user called “absolutely frustrating” changes and another commented: “If Microsoft wanted to collect our data, don’t leave it.”

However, some Redditers have defended Windows 11 updates. It has been pointed out that each time there is a new version of Windows, people hate it until they like it. And one commented: “Why is everyone raging on this subject, but it is quite well to connect to your Google or Apple account on your phone?”

A Microsoft representative did not immediately respond to a request for additional comments.
