Serge Beausoleil’s men would like to remedy the situation this Thursday evening against the Cataractes, in Shawinigan. “It won’t be easy. The Cataractes still count on a few veterans who participated in the conquest of the President’s Cup last spring. This allows them to have a good start to the season. On our side, we must [compter] on our performances last weekend against the Drakkar,” analyzed Océanic head coach Serge Beausoleil.
The driver from Rimouski believes that his team’s failures on the road since the beginning are more attributable to a poor start to the season in general than to a problem on the road. “We are treated well on the road. We sleep in good hotels and we eat well. There is no reason for us to be less efficient than at home”.
Attack is the best defense
Serge Beausoleil agrees that the adage that the best defense is the offense. “On Saturday, we didn’t lose a fight in net in the last two periods, partly because we spent a lot of time in opposing territory. We gave 22 chances to score in two games, which is excellent. We aim for between 10 and 14 [tirs] per game. It is this way of playing that we must bring on the road.
The defense is needed
If the attack woke up during the last weekend, starting with the trio of Jacob Mathieu, Luka Verreault and William Dumoulin, the defense was also impeccable. « We have rightly talked a lot about Frédéric Brunet, but guys like Mathis Gauthier and Simon Maltais have upped their game. Both have more offense than they think, » commented Serge Beausoleil.
In short
The Océanic will be deprived of three important pieces for the trip to Shawinigan and Drummondville (match Friday night) while defenders Mathis Aguilar and Luke Coughlin are injured, as is forward Xavier Fillion.
Although he hasn’t played this season, Coughlin is on the top roster for the upcoming NHL Draft. He is accompanied by Frédéric St-Denis and Jan Sprynar. Regarding the poor offensive performance of the latter (1 goal and 2 assists in 12 games), Serge Beausoleil remains patient. “Last year, Louis Robin began to impose itself after the holidays. The Euros need some time to adapt”. A month after the start of the season, the Rimouski Océanic is still looking for a first victory on opposing rinks after six consecutive losses.
