The chief of MDMK, Vaiko, expels Mallai Sathya citing “anti-party activities”

The Maramalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), the founder and secretary general of the party, Vaiko expelled the deputy secretary general Mallai this Sathya, citing “repeated anti-partis activities and the violations of the organizational discipline.

The prescription made on Monday, September 8, followed months of friction between Sathya and management, reported the news agency Ani. His actions would have weakened the unity of the parties and violates the rules.

The disciplinary committee declared Sathya guilty under articles 19, 35 and 41 of the party constitution, leading to its permanent withdrawal members.

Vaiko’s letter noted that Sathya had ignored repeated warnings and “continued to engage in a conduct against the interests of the party”.

He was also accused of having abused his position and of publishing public statements that have harmed the party. According to the prescription, Sathya was invited to immediately return all the documents and assets of the parties.

Sathya had previously rejected the accusations, without foundation and defamatory. He argued that he had never acted against the interests of the MDMK and underlined his past contributions, in particular by representing the party internationally, as proof of his loyalty, according to Ani.

The growing flaw in the party

The internal conflict would have started at the beginning of 2025 when some of Sathya’s publications on social networks were considered criticism of party leadership.

In April, Tiruchy’s urban unit described its “traitor” and demanded its eviction. In the midst of 2025, Vaiko had publicly accused him of anti-parties in collaboration of two years, including an alleged collaboration with external criticism.

In August, Sathya was temporarily suspended and served with a notice of justification under rule 35 (6) of the party constitution. He was prevented from using symbols and party assets until an explanation was provided, according to Ani.

Observers also note that the RIFT also highlights an underlying generational and ideological transition within MDMK, as Vaiko’s son, Durai Vaiko, is increasingly important a more important role in parties.
