Tesla and BYD smash China delivery records as EV rivalry goes global

HONG KONG-You’re here and its Chinese rival BYD Co. each broke their monthly records for electric vehicle deliveries in China as global competition between the world’s biggest manufacturers of new-energy automobiles intensifies.

Tesla, the world’s largest electric vehicle maker, delivered more than 83,000 Model 3s and Model Ys from its newly renovated Shanghai factory in September, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association program on Sunday. The US electric vehicle maker controlled by Elon Musk had outstripped BYD in China before production was disrupted by the country’s Covid-19 outbreaks.
