Fire investigators praise a quick-thinking 13-year-old for getting a sibling to safety and quickly calling 911 after the teen spotted black smoke coming from the garage of their home.
The incident happened just after 5pm Friday on Twyford Street in the Hunt Club area.
Ottawa Fire Services said the teen called at 5:05 p.m. and the first fire apparatus was on the scene four minutes later. The fire was confined to the garage and brought under control at 5:26 p.m.
« Due to the quick response, combined with a quick attack, the fire was contained in the garage and did not spread to the house. » OFS posted on Twitter.
