Taylor Swift visited him Late at night my friend Seth Meyers for a takeover Wednesday night, as the show’s only guest.

Not counting Meyer’s iconic “Closer Look” segment, the entire episode was a “Tay/kover” as it was dubbed by the show. But even “A Closer Look” added a friendship bracelet and The life of a showgirl jokes about the name of the song when talking about the current government shutdown.

Swift seemed completely comfortable with Meyers despite the fact that it had been five years since she last appeared on the show. Meyers cheekily noted that it looked like Swift had done about 15 years of work in those five years.

“It’s absolutely my favorite,” Swift said of The life of a showgirl deployment, calling it “the most joyful” of his career. Swift said she listens to what fans post on TikTok. She also said that for the first time, her entire family – her mother, father and brother – were all on a press tour with her. Swift also gave a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the music video for her single “The Fate of Ophelia,” which featured several of her dancers. Eras tour.

The singer also opened up about her new favorite hobby: baking bread. Meyers proudly showed off her own Swift Baked Bread, the packaging littered with puns inspired by her lyrics. In what appeared to be a cheeky nod to some online discourse around her music, Swift said her puns would only be “appreciated after the hour.” The Grammy winner’s bread was the subject of much of the screen crew, with Meyers showing a clip from her recently released theater event when it was decided that her bread could be featured in “The Fate of Ophelia” music video.

On Wednesday morning, with more than a full day of tracking remaining, Swift officially took the record for biggest opening week so far for a record in the streaming era, according to Billboard with data from Luminate. It has sold 3.2 million copies with 300,000 units streaming, bringing it to a record 3.5 million total. Adele’s 25 currently holds the record for the most individual sales with 3.3 million units (not including streaming).

Of course, Swift’s recent engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was a hot topic, offering a glimpse into what appears to be their playful relationship with each other, with Swift light-heartedly poking fun at her now fiancé. In a clip released ahead of Wednesday night’s show, Swift recounted Kelce’s meeting with his “favorite director” Greta Gerwig, where he mistook Hugh Grant’s wife for the barbie director.

Swift’s 12th album, produced and written by the singer herself with hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback, was seen as a return to some of her more standard pop albums, like 1989but he instead managed to be the love child of Always And Midnights. The album sold 2.7 million copies on its release day (October 3), making that day alone its biggest week ever, according to Luminate via Billboard.

In addition to the album, Swift released a cinematic companion this weekend, which included the chance to see the music video for the album’s lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” ahead of its online release on Sunday. Swift directed the video, which was filmed by frequent collaborator and Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, and features choreography by famed choreographer Mandy Moore, who worked on the singer’s Eras tour.

The Grammy Award winner’s release event — which is not fully classified as a film or documentary — grossed an estimated $33 million at the domestic box office and another $13 million worldwide, bringing its grand total to $46 million worldwide.
