Suspect arrested after threats to Tiktok’s siege in Culver City

Police said they had arrested a suspect who was reportedly linked to several online threats that led Tiktok to evacuate his headquarters near Los Angeles on Friday.

A press release from the City Police Department City said Tiktok employees said they had received several threats to various social media platforms from the 33 -year -old Hawthorne resident Joseph Mayuyo. After an additional message threatened Tiktok’s headquarters to Culver City, the police said that business security has evacuated the office “by abundance of prudence”.

The police then investigated Mayuyo’s home, according to the press release. During the investigation, he would have published additional threat declarations, one of which said that he would not be taken alive. The detectives obtained search and arrest mandates, and they negotiated with Mayuyo for 90 minutes before leaving his home voluntarily and having been arrested, said the police service.

Business Insider reports that an employee of Tiktok describes threats as “really frightening”, while another was concerned about the fact that they seemed specifically targeting the electronic commerce service.

Mayuyo’s X account would have been suspended for violating the platform’s hateful content policy. An average account under his name published an article in July criticizing Tiktokshop USA as a “scam”.

Techcrunch contacted Tiktok to comment. In the press release, the police service praised the Tiktok security team “for its rapid action, its collaboration and its professionalism throughout this case”.

This arrest comes when Tiktok’s American operations come from the Chinese owner bytedance as a new joint venture with a new board of directors. President Donald Trump, who speaks and has published the agreement for several months, recently signed an executive decree approving the sale.
