Born in the Toronto area, Mendes will receive the Juno International Achievement Award during the 51st Annual Juno Awards broadcast live from the Budweiser Stage in Toronto on May 15. The ceremony marks the first in-person iteration of the awards since 2019.
The award recognizes Canadian artists who have achieved global success and raised the profile of Canadian music around the world. Past recipients include Arcade Fire, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Drake, Sarah McLachlan and Shania Twain. The International Achievement Award has only been presented eight times, the last time in 2018.

“Accepting this award will be a surreal moment,” Mendes said. “To be recognized for my work not just in Canada, but around the world, is a huge honor and I am honored to join an exceptional group of artists who have helped put Canadian music on the map.”
Mendes, an 11-time Juno winner, received four nominations this year.
The chart-topping singer-songwriter will kick off his world tour in June with his Wonder: The World Tour, featuring two shows in his hometown on July 31 and August 2 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
The Junos, which will be hosted by Marvel star Simu Liu, will air Sunday, May 15 on CBC and its various social media pages.
