Student, parents among four who died in road crash, school officials say

Deb Callahan, principal of Thomas A Stewart Secondary School, said in a letter that the school community was “shocked and in mourning” at the death of the student and his parents, one of whom was an employee of the school.

She says another family member was also a student at the school and was airlifted to hospital after the crash.

Provincial police say the crash between a pickup truck and an SUV happened Tuesday afternoon on Highway 7 near Drummond Line.

They identified three deceased SUV occupants as Riddick Hart, 18, Jonathan MacDonnell, 46, and Stephanie Hart, 52, while the deceased van driver was identified as 42. Jason Schmidt.

Rita Russo, director of education at the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, said in a letter to families that the board has sought support from mental health clinicians for students and staff in light of the tragedy.
