Stuart Skinner strong as Edmonton Oilers beat St. Louis Blues 3-1 – Edmonton


Stuart Skinner made 38 saves and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins hit a milestone to help the Edmonton Oilers defeat the St. Louis Blues 3-1 on Wednesday night.

The Oilers scored the lone goal in the first. Warren Foegele dove behind the net and sent the puck into the high slot. Darnell Nurse picked it up and his wrist was deflected by Jesse Puljujarvi.

The Blues applied more and more pressure as the second period progressed. Ryan O’Reilly finally scored on the power play with just 4.4. seconds remaining in frame to make 1-1. The Blues outshot the Oilers 20-6 during the period.

Skinner made some big saves midway through the third. He shot his right leg to make a save on Nathan Walker. With the Blues on the power play, he made a tackle save on Ivan Barbashev, who had a big chance after an Oilers turnover.

Later, Oilers captain Connor McDavid centered the puck on Nugent-Hopkins. His initial shot was stopped, but he stuck with it and tossed the puck in the air for his 200th career goal with 6:16 on the clock.

The Blues continued to pressure before Zach Hyman iced him with an empty net.
