The city was placed under a special weather statement on Tuesday evening with strong winds expected for much of Wednesday.
Environment Canada says westerly winds are expected to start Wednesday afternoon and continue through Wednesday evening. Winds will follow in the wake of a strong cold front.
The gusts are expected to reach speeds of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour.
The federal weather agency says the strongest winds are expected on the eastern shore of the Great Lakes, where wind gusts could reach 90 km/h.
Wednesday evening, the forecast indicates that the winds should decrease from west to east.
« Strong winds can throw loose objects and break tree branches, » says Environment Canada.
There could be isolated power outages, the federal weather agency warns.
