North Carolina and football coach Bill Belichick released statements Wednesday night showing unity in their decision to stay the course with the program amid a wave of negativity that has surfaced primarily over the past three days.

Since the Tar Heels’ 38-10 loss to Clemson on Saturday at Kenan Stadium, numerous stories have surfaced regarding issues within the program, some of which were first reported by TarHeel247.

Among them was a range of information from sources including the power structure at the university, reviewing the information to determine a course of action, which includes whether or not to continue with Belichick as head coach.

The fact that UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham and Belichick had to make public comments speaks to the extent of the discussions that took place.

“I am fully committed to UNC Football and the program we are building here,” Belichick said in a message posted by the school’s X handle, @GoHeels.

“Coach Belichick has the full support of the athletic department and the university,” Cunningham said.

UNC currently sits at 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the ACC. The Tar Heels have been outscored 120-33 by the three Power 4 conference opponents they have faced and rank near the bottom of the nation in nearly every offensive statistic and many defensive stats.

The stories surrounding Belichick’s personal life have been pretty consistent since last spring. And more recently, a flood of insiders, including the program’s X, not tweeting about former quarterback Drake Maye because he plays for the New England Patriots, Belichick’s former employer for most of a century and with whom he has an admitted feud.

The Tar Heels are in a bye week and will play October 17 in California.
