Spirit Airlines plans to get to know about 1,800 on -board agents, or around a third of its cabin crew members, to reduce costs, the budget airline is fighting in its second bankruptcy in less than a year.

“While we work to return the mind to profitability, we are faced with difficult decisions on our network, our fleet and, finally, our workforce,” John Bendoraitis, head of the Spirit operation, wrote to a memo sent to on Monday, who was examined by CNBC.

CNBC reported last week that CEO Dave Davis warned the staff of the job cuts while Spirit seeks to reduce his fleet in order to stabilize his business.

Some 800 spiritual onset agents have already released on the voluntary leaves of the absence, which helped the airline avoid involuntary content, said Bendoraitis.

“However, there is a limit to the number of people can volunteer for this type of leave, and we have reached this brand,” he said.

The airline will first offer voluntary leave, so that the last number of cabin crew members who will be affected was not immediately clear. On-board agents can request volunteer leave of six or 12 months and will retain medical services, their union, the association of agents of CWA, said in a note to the members of Monaday which was also examined by CNBC.

AFA said that it worked with Union chapters in other airlines to help on -board officers affected to obtain “preferential interviews” with other carriers. Unintentional leave will take effect on December 1, AFA said.

Spirit did not immediately comment on the leave.

Spirit also experienced hundreds of pilots, and the leaders told the airline pilots’ union that he was looking for $ 100 million in its aviators.

Bendoraitis told the Union, the Air Line Pilots Association, last week, that this management is “available to continue to negotiate each day later to achieve a consensual agreement” by October 1. Under the bankruptcy process, however, the airline could find a compensation outside the pilot’s employment contract.
