On Thursday, October 27, the Be Kind speaker series kicks off for the season with an event focused on empowerment and mental health for children since Covid – specifically girls, social media and cyberbullying.

The evening’s guests of honor are lawyer and children’s author Margot Denomme, author of Mom, am I pretty? and Awesome inside + outside; Toronto Police Services social media expert Laurie McCann and Beaches Therapy Group therapists Rebecca Loucks and Laura Devlin.
Margot Denomme has been a criminal lawyer in Toronto for over 20 years and has witnessed the devastating effects of poor choices made by children with low self-esteem and shattered self-confidence.
As a mother of two daughters, she was struck by the distorted images of beauty sold to children via the media and advertising – and she writes children’s books with the clear message that beauty comes from within and from heart.

const. Toronto Police Laurie McCann is passionate about internet safety and has spoken to parents, teachers and students in the GTA for a decade on the subject. On Thursday evening, she will speak about internet safety, cybercrime and cyberbullying.
The evening promises tips, tools and strategies to help kids navigate social media and their mental health/self-esteem, in this post-pandemic world.
The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the new Beaches Sandbox Community Center, 2181 Queen St. E.
Speakers start at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $40 and can be purchased online.
